What Does KotR Rotation Sunday School Look Like?
Each week kids try different workshops on a month-specific biblical topic. Here’s what happened in 2009:
Gingerbread was the vehicle for teaching the beauty of how a cross cutout can transform into the form of a person - such was the lesson on the importance of each part of The Body of Christ in Snack Shack.
We practiced the humble act of washing feet during our lesson on Maundy Thursday in our "Peter-Built" class. Many of the children commented that it was easier to do the washing than to have their own feet/hands washed.
When our Game Stop lesson came to the story of Mary and Martha, we did a little "cleaning game". It taught us all about listening to the directions of the Master (and it did not hurt that it reinforced the idea that there is a time to listen AND to clean!)
Artistic License rose to new HEIGHTS this year with the coolest project involving both art and science. A water bottle and an ascending and descending Jesus helped us in our study of Ascension and the Great Commission!

Rotation Model Sunday School
We want through the Kids on the Road Ministry to help children bring Jesus into their daily lives. By using games, cooking, art and storytelling as avenues for learning we hope to encourage kids to make space in their work and play for a new friend - Jesus! Each four or five week unit focuses on a single Bible story, where each class goes to a different workshop each week. The workshop teachers (Crew Chiefs) concentrate on directing the activities, while "Road Crew" travel with the children from week to week, providing continuity.
We currently have four workshops:
Snack Shack - Cooking, baking and proper kitchen etiquette are over arching focuses in the parish kitchen during the Sunday School hour. Here lessons (tailored to each age group) bring different biblical stories to life. "Taste and see that the Lord is good!" Psalm 34:8
Peter-Built - Whether using movies, skits, object lessons or storyboards the message of the month is brought to life. We have a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel with children orally the way the first believers did!
Artistic License - A chance to be creative through a number of artistic mediums - the story unfolds through each child's interpretation of the story.
Game Stop - Using simple games to reinforce the lesson, this workshop encourages children to run, jump and exercise their faith!
