Our Mission and Vision
Mission Statement - Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, Houston is an open accepting community which welcomes the stranger in fellowship and worship with the love of Christ and joyfully takes Christ's love into the world in which we live.
Vision Statement - Holy Spirit Episcopal Church emphasizes ministry, appreciates and uses the ministry talents of our people and celebrates our parish's commitment to stewardship. Holy Spirit offers a variety of ministry and educational programs for and in its community, serving people of all ethnic and social backgrounds. An intergrated team of clergy and laity sustains all our ministry efforts. In short, this center of "Servant-hood" inspires its congregation through worship to share God's gifts and grace with everyone we meet.
Our Facilities
A Sanctuary, with seating for 600, in which both Traditional services are held - 8:00 am Rite I, and 10:30 am Rite II. Attached to this structure are the church offices.
A Parish Hall, with kitchen facilities and an occupancy capacity of 300. The 10:30 Contemporary Service is held in the Parish Hall.
Our Worship Services
Holy Spirit offers three different Sunday morning services: Traditional Rite I, Traditional Rite II, and Contemporary.
8:00 a.m. Service consists of traditional Rite I language of Elizabethan English. The liturgies are very similar to the services that have been used since the first Prayerbook of 1549. The service consists of formal worship and includes organ music and hymns (with no choir). This service is approximately sixty minutes long.
10:30 a.m. Traditional service of Holy Eucharist Rite II uses more contemporary, everyday English. The service consists of formal worship including organ music, hymns and a full choir. Service bulletins follow the Book of Common Prayer and are used along with the hymnal. This service is approximately seventy-five minutes long.
10:30 a.m. The Contemporary service is complete with a sermon, the Holy Eucharist and music by a full worship band. The service is projected onto large screens. It is a less formal, come-as-you are atmosphere and approximately seventy-five minutes long.
There is a fully staffed nursery during all services. During both 10:30 services Children’s Chapel is offered for those who are in preschool through 5th grade (click here for more information).
Our History
Holy Spirit is an Episcopal Church in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and is part of the Anglican Communion.

We were first organized by Bishop Hines as a Mission on September 14, 1958,

and the first service was held at Bunker Hill Elementary School on October 19, 1958.

In 1960, the Rev. Hubert C. Palmer was called to become Holy Spirit's Priest in Charge and thereafter served as Rector until 1986.

In 1961, Holy Spirit became a self-supporting parish and experienced rapid growth. It built and began worshiping in its first building in 1962.

In 1968, the current Sanctuary was added and the first Sanctuary becam the Parish Hall.

In 1987, the Rev. Melvin Gray was called as Holy Spirit's second Rector serving through 2000.

Our current Rector, The Rev. David F.K. Puckett was called to Holy Spirit in 2002.
