Parish Life
A Parish community that connects individuals to each other, and cares for each other is important at Holy Spirit. Learn more about these ministries.
Home Groups
Home Groups are meant to be a place to come together in the middle of the week to refresh ourselves in the word of our Lord and in the company of others who seek the Lords strength through prayer and study. At this time, the study material is the Lectionary for the coming Sunday. Each group will choose their study materials.
The groups are held in the homes of those who volunteer their homes. They start at 7p.m. and end at 8:30p.m. A snack is served at the end of the meeting.
For questions, please send them to robertfelice@sbcglobal.net or call Sue at 832-236-4533 or Bob at 832-338-3388.
Prayer Chain
The prayer chain at Holy Spirit includes about 45 dedicated intercessors who commit to follow the Biblical injunction to “pray for one another” (James 5:16).
They pray for the needs of the church and community that are submitted for the published prayer list each Sunday, as well as requests that come in from various sources during the week. These are sent out by e-mail or regular mail.
Every Daughter of the King is automatically a member of the prayer chain. In addition, they receive a separate, but often overlapping, prayer list that is cumulative for a month, so those requests are lifted up for at least a month.
There is a place on the prayer insert in the Sunday bulletin to have items placed on the DOK list. This is an anonymous ministry in that the names of those who pray are not made public. Only God knows that, but we all have seen answers to these prayers. Anyone in the church who has a heart for prayer and desires to participate is most welcome.
Community of Hope
The Community of Hope is a group of parishioners who are lay pastoral caregivers who visit hospitals, assisted living homes, nursing homes, hospices, and those who are-ins.In In the past year the Community of Hope has visited 694 people, 18 differentinstitutions, held 8 church services at assisted living homes, brought communionto shut-ins and served as lay chaplains at the side altar at all Sunday Services. COH is a division of St.Lukes Episcopal Health System.
Side Chapel
This ministry includes intercessors from the Community of Hope and Daughters of the King. At all three Sunday services, prayers teams of two are available to pray for worshippers’ needs and concerns and to help celebrate blessings such as birthdays, anniversaries and other joys. Prayers are offered in the side chapel back close to the wall to avoid distractions and afford more privacy. We pray that more will join us for prayer during and after communion at the three services, that we all may be blessed by approaching the throne together concerning specific needs.

Prayer Shawl
It all began one Sunday after the 10:30 services on a bench outsite the Parish Hall. One woman sharing her love of knitting with a child was approached by another woman who had an idea for starting a new ministry at Holy Spirit.
That was three years ago and over 300 shawls ago. Shawls have been sent across the country and around the world to loved ones and friends of Holy Spirit parishioners who are bereaved, ill, or in need of pastoral care for some other concern. The shawls are gratefully received - a scrapbook for the minstry is filled with notes of gratitude and pictures of knitters, crocheters and prayer shawl recipients.
The group has about 20 active members ranging in age from 10 to 65+ The group faithfully meets in the church parlor on the 3rd. Tuesday of each month. Each meeting is followed by the Blessing of the Shawls on the next Sunday after the meeting.
Each shawl takes about 18 hours of knitting from start to finish. With each stitch the person making the shawl prays for the needs of the recipient and their family and friends - that's dedicated prayer for someone and their loved ones for 18 hours!
How does one get a Prayer Shawl? Just ask.
